Dominoes are a family of tile-based games. The pieces are rectangular tiles, each marked with a certain number of spots. The object of the game is to place the tiles in a sequence to make a group of nines. The first person to reach nines wins. If there are no nines, the player forfeits.
5s-and-3s
The objective of the 5s-and-3s domino game is to collect multiples of five tiles. The double six tile is worth anywhere from five to twenty points, and all five end tiles score one point. This European style domino game has been played for more than a thousand years. Italian missionaries first introduced this style of dominoes to Europe. The game then spread throughout the continent and the world, eventually becoming one of the most popular board games.
Double-nine
House of Marbles Double-nine dominoes feature 3 extra spots, which allows players to play more than one game with them. They also come with brass spinners in the center of the board. They are a great way to spice up your game and enjoy the game even more.
The game begins by selecting the player with the highest double. This person then draws a 9 from the boneyard and places it at the center of the table. The next four dominoes must join to it on each end or side. Then, the next player’s turn begins.
Origins
The Origins of Domino comic book series tells the origins of this popular board game. It was first played by the Italians in the early eighteenth century, but quickly spread throughout Europe and Asia. By the late nineteenth century, the game had become so popular that it was brought to China by Italian missionaries. Today, the game is played in pubs across Europe, as well as in the Americas.
The game’s name is believed to come from a Venetian carnival costume. While it has no direct relation to the number two in any language, it has become one of the most popular board games in the world. There are many variations of the game, including Domino Whist, Texas 42, and Double Fives. Most variations of the game are played in the United Kingdom, but Spanish versions of the game are also popular in South America.
Rules
The Rules of Domino are fairly simple. The goal of the game is to create enclosed spaces – referred to as ‘cells’ – that contain at least one domino tile. Each cell is worth one point. To start playing, players place one domino tile in front of another, and then take turns drawing and playing. When one of the players misses a tile, they take it back and draw a new one. The player who misplays a tile scores the difference between the two tiles. If two tiles match, play is over.
Dominoes must be placed in a certain pattern, so that two adjacent sides of a chain touch. To make doubles, players must place one of their tiles in the center of the chain. Depending on the size of the playing surface, a chain may develop in various shapes, from rectangular to snake-like.
Variations
The classic game of domino has many variations. Several of these games have evolved into other popular board games. A few examples include Texas 42, Domino Whist, Fives and Threes, and Matador. Each of these games focuses on different aspects of the game. Several strategies are used to keep the towers standing.
The most basic variant is for two players. Players each pick seven tiles from a double-six set of 28 tiles. Each player then plays matching tiles in a line. The player with the highest score in the hand wins. This player takes the first turn, and the player with fewer tiles draws from the remaining tiles.
